Cathay's Departure - Coming Soon!
Julie and I have an announcement!
To tell you that this has been a difficult decision for me is quite an understatement. However, my need for full time employment couldn’t be ignored or postponed any longer, and I was motivated to send out a few resumes (and Julie worked very hard to make it so I could stay!! Thank you Julie!). To my surprise and –mostly – delight, I was offered a full time position as library director with the Delmar Public Library, in southern Delaware. Usually, news of this type is really good, but honestly, it is with a mixture of happiness tinged with sadness that I am leaving AskUsNow! and Maryland libraries, effective May 18th.
This small, rural library sits right on the Maryland/Delaware border just a few miles from Salisbury (Hi Mandy!) and about 30 minutes from Ocean City. I am also relocating to the area and have found a little cottage just minutes from the library!
I’d also like to tell our AUN and QuestionPoint teams how much I will miss everyone, and how lucky I have been to work with such a wonderful group of people. I’ve learned a lot from my experience and interactions. I am proud to share Maryland’s level of professionalism and quality of library services through my work in Delaware. It is not easy leaving Maryland’s libraries, the systems, my colleagues and friends, and especially, Julie, whom I will miss working with most of all.
Best wishes and good luck to each of you, and please feel free to keep in touch. I don’t have a new business email address yet, but after June 1st, you can find me at the Delmar Public Library! I would be glad to hear from you. It has been terrific working with each of you.

Next steps: We are currently planning for restructuring and until anything is finalized, after May 17th please contact Julie (jstrange@askusnow.info, 410.887.6124) about anything AskUsNow! related. Contact information will be updated on www.askusnow.info/staff site as we get closer.
Until then, we will continue to bring you the finest VR coordination there is in the contiguous United States. :-)

Congratulations Cathay, You
Congratulations Cathay,
You are embracing a wonderful opportunity. I think this is good news all the way around. You’ll have a library of you own to guide and grow, staff who will come to know and love you. And, heck, you’ll be basically living at the beach, can’t leave that out J Naturally we’ll descend on your library during MLA and expect the full tour or coerce you into providing a conference session about working in and developing a rural library.
It sounds like you got the dream job. Please don’t feel bad for us, be glad that you get to live the dream and give us something to aspire to.

Thanks!
Hi Brian,
I really appreciate your kind words! I'm getting pretty excited about my new job now that it's just around the corner. There's always so much to learn; I think that's one reason I love library work so much.
