Customer can hear a "ding" when the librarian replies!
This past week Tina @BCPL ran into a session that she brought to my attention. In the session, the customer said they couldn’t get the “audible alert” to work.
Whaaaa?
The librarian interface has sound notifications when there is a new customer or when the customer says something but the customer interface doesn’t… does it?
Apparently it does. QuestionPoint verified for me that this was a change they made in 2007. I’m not sure if I’m the only one who missed this (it was announced in tandem with other, bigger things that may have taken the focus) but there you have it.
Here's what it looks like:
A customer using the regular page-push interface logs in to the service:

Once the form is filled out and the customer clicks "Connect" they are now waiting in line for the next available librarian:

At the bottom left of their input area, there's a "Preferences" link. This brings up some accessibility options for customers that only hold true for the CURRENT session they are in. One of those settings is a "New message Chime" feature that will ding when their librarian sends them a message:

So now, if your customers ask you if they can get an alert when you respond, now you can advise them how to do it!
